Every so often, I know a book is truly fantastic because it leaves me speechless once I'm done. This story is so multi-layered that there isn't enough I can say in a crummy little review to even touch the basics.
Watchmen takes our universal knowledge of the human condition, issues that have mattered or will matter to us all, and it strains the hell out of them in a way that we can utterly feel the gravity of the situation... Yet it achieves this with stories of people who dress up in costume, like cosplayers, and pretend to be super-heroes. Say that to anyone in this current age and they will laugh in your face. But despite knowing this fact, their stories are no less serious.
For me, the most astounding feat of Watchmen is the fact that it achieves this multitude of levels of well-informed commentary on global problems, with the stories of grown-up men and women who dress up and pretend to be super heroes! Maybe it's because the sky is pink and they live within the context of comic pages. Or, it might just be the insurmountable writing skills.

This is the best standalone graphic novel ever. Hands down. The movie was great, but nothing beats the story and the characters in the original graphic novel.

En cuanto a los detalles tiene cinco estrellas, estoy segura de que hubo cientos de pequeñas cosas que no noté mientras lo leía, más porque la última mitad la leí muy rápido. Adoré el material extra (supongo) que hay entre los capítulos, el reloj avanzando hacia la media noche, y especialmente la forma en que Dr. Manhattan se comporta en la Antártica. Pero no pude soportar a sus personajes femeninos.
Laurie es insoportable y su apetito sexual es irracional; la esposa del psiquiatra (¿Gloria?) no tiene ninguna relevancia para la historia y sólo interviene para aislar a su esposo, porque OBVIAMENTE tiene que acostarse con ella cuando le de su gana; Sally sólo es capaz de apreciarse en función de su atractivo sexual. Y creo que ya fueron todos los personajes femeninos que aparecen en más de 10 cuadritos. ¿Conclusión? Las mujeres piensan con las patas.
Ahora, disfruté a Rorschach y a Jon, incluso a The Comedian, pero de ahí en fuera nada. Ozymandias era demasiado perfecto en todos los sentidos y Dan daba lástima de lo manso que era.
La trama estuvo bien, sólo me desesperé en el último cuarto o algo por el estilo y comencé a leer sin fijarme mucho en los detalles. Las últimas ocasiones en las que salía el cómic del náufrago las leía de cualquier modo porque no llamaban mi atención y también Laurie me hartó.
No sé, todo lo que puedo pensar en este momento es que el final no estuvo conectado con el resto. No entiendo a qué vino el monstruo ese, ni por qué tomó como 400 páginas llegar a algo que no dura ni 10. ¿Y qué es eso de Adrian con Jon? ¿Cómo pudieron quedarse tan campantes todos? No sé, no entiendo nada.
Con todo el dolor de mi alma, me gustó más la película.

Lol this heavy shit, full of questions about morality. Probably will only make sense for people who have brains. I think my brain doesn't have the full capacity to comprehend this. But as a first experience, dat okay.
