Wank fantasy sisters!!!
Truly a platonic love story :']

A classic story of ~college friends doing stuff~ full of characters that I did not expect to be laughing and crying with for hours.

I will say, the MC's experience with discovering her aroace identity didn't necessarily relate to mine that much. Personally, it felt a little bit like a stereotypical depiction of an aroace character, but I'm not here to invalidate anyone else's experiences since I'm sure this book has made tons of folks feel seen and heard (and obviously the story of one singular character is not meant to represent all aces)

The narrative style isn’t my favorite but the exploration of asexuality and aromanticism was very interesting and so needed for many people in the world. Specifically the implications of a life without a romantic or sexual partner is what I think many allosexual and alloromantic people, including myself, struggle to understand. (And aro-ace people like Georgia herself, upon first discovery.) Oseman does a fantastic job gently opening up and changing your expectations in regards to that, showing you how someone can be The Person in a platonic way for someone and simultaneously The Person in a romantic way for someone else, showing you how there is fulfillment beyond romance, which I think many of us theoretically believe but in practice do not understand. Or perhaps we don’t understand the non-monogamous nature of it.

Had to put my nose to the grindstone and finish this before book club tonight, lol. But I liked it! A friend warned me that the portrayals of sexualities (especially pansexuality) were a bit stereotypical, and I can see what she meant, but I didn't necessarily think the portrayals were offensive; the pansexual character's hypersexuality, for example, has more to do with her backstory than just herself. Anyway, I thought this book was very sweet and earnest and even if it felt at times like a cheesy teen romcom-without-the-rom, I never disliked it. It's a great book for anyone to read, but especially if you suspect you might be asexual or have a loved one who is and you want to better understand them. Or, y'know, for queer book club. :P
