This book had a lot of potential but I ultimately felt disappointed in it. The character development was well done, but it was almost like there were too many individual character stories going on, but no real overarching plot line.

didn’t love the writing style but this was a really good story and would be a perfect beach read, good characters and plot even if the ghost pov was a bit odd

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would because the only other Elin Hilderbrand book I have read was a major miss for me. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it and everyone else I know who has read it has loved it, too.

The entire premise of a luxurious hotel attempting its startup in Nantucket was interesting because Hilderbrand uses her knowledge of Nantucket so well in her writing to make readers feel like they're actually seeing the hotel and island for themselves. I loved how all of the staff members had their own little secrets, as well, so readers get to see how their secrets unfold and their relationships play out. I was pleasantly surprised with how my feelings about certain characters changed with some character development! I also loved the romance subplot for Lizbet because I think I have decided that I prefer a fiction novel with a romance subplot to a full-on romance novel where the only plot is surrounding love and sex.

The things that knocked my rating down half a star were Hilderbrand's attempt as using 'hip' language to connect with a younger audience (cringe) and the subplot about Grace, the ghost haunting the Hotel Nantucket. I was expecting this to be a larger part of the plot because of the book's description but I felt like it could have been done better or just cut out completely. It made a book that does a nice job of making readers place themselves into the setting seem unrealistic and childish, so I didn't love that.

Overall, though, I loved this book!

4.75 stars! This was my first Elin book & I will definitely be reading more. I listened on audio for most of it & read a little, too. I enjoyed the narrator and writing style!

This is just an all-around good summer read! I love the hospitality industry, so I really enjoyed this. I loved all the characters and getting a glimpse into each of them. I thought I’d be annoyed by the “ghost” character, but it was done well and I actually didn’t mind it!
