So much fun! I don't usually love spy narratives but the whole secret life trope where everyone in the family is hiding a massive secret from the other "Superman/Clark Kent" style is so funny to read about that I know I'll 100% be continuing this series and starting the anime whenever I can!

This is such a fun manga. I really hope that we will get an anime adaptation soon because I think it would translate perfectly to the screen.

trigger warning for murder, violence, blood, death, war themes, nationalism, xenophobia. There's a panel where somebody calls for people to be gassed, it's brief but not really addressed or challenged.

We follow agent "Twilight", a spy who needs to infiltrate a very prestigious school, so he can get close to his new target. However, to do that he needs a "fake" family. He finds his daughter, Anya, in an orphanage, and his wife, Yor Briar, in a tailor shop. What he doesn't know is that Anya can read minds and Yor is an assassin.

This manga has everything I love and need. It has spies, assassins, explosions, comedy, and most importantly - the found family trope. We see how these three very bizarre and dangerous people, who only decide to be together because of convenience, slowly become a real family. There's nothing better than that. All three of them are very good at keeping secrets, their survival depends on it, however, they can't escape their true nature. Little bits of their true selves come through in each chapter and bit by bit we can put together what's really behind the smokescreen. Anya is an adorable little girl, who just wants to be loved and not be used as a weapon. Yor is a little bit clueless and surprisingly naive for somebody so bloodthirsty, and Twilight is a socially awkward, very pragmatic, but good-hearted man.

The main plot isn't overly complicated, the character interactions are hilarious, comedic, I'd even say that the atmosphere is lighthearted, but there's darkness in the background. Especially in the world this story takes place in. We have two main fictional war thorn countries. The west vs the east type of dynamic. We don't get many details in this first volume, but there's a lot of animosity between these countries, a lot of war themes, nationalism, and xenophobia. All we really have now is that peace between these countries depends on Twilight successfully completing his mission. I'm curious how much more about this world we'll be told in future volumes.

Overall, I loved it. The humor is on point. I giggled and actually laughed out loud while reading it. It's amazing. The main characters stole my heart and I can't wait to dive deeper into this series. I might have just found my new comfort read. This was delightful and super entertaining.
