I read this whole series and enjoyed the historical elements and the setting. It was a fun read and sometimes you aren’t looking for anything more than that. I went into it knowing exactly what it was. If you can’t stand booktok fantasy romance suggestions for the poor writing and instant smut, this could be for you. The characters were fine, the pacing was decent, the romance was annoying (as most can be in these types of novels).

After watching the series I was worried that the book would be too similar and slow but I was so wrong! The depths this book dives into characters and the plot expands what I love about the series. I am curious if I’ll like the second book as the second season is one of the slower seasons of tv. I hope that with the space to tell the story in a book we get more in the right places like we did in this book.
The narrator is also great in that she differentiates between the characters enough but no one seems to be made fun of.

it is because of the second tv season that i once again found this series. i had watched the first season and then bought the first book and totally forgotten about it but then when i rewatched season one for the coming season two i once again found my love for this series and bought the other two books in this trilogy and it is such an amazing story.
i loved getting to know diana and matthew and follow their story and can't wait to read the other two books
