- An easy read while work has been nuts
- Not as cheesy or dramatic as the show because it's not in a rush due to limited episods so delivery felt more serious (I think I'm able to enjoy the show and the book as 2 separate things)
- It's felt more like a focus on historical study than a possessive vampire and seductive witch so I got to really enjoy Diana's connection to Academia
- I don't think Matthew was nearly as obsessed and controlling as I'd been lead to think he'd be.
- Overall very engaging, albeit ridiculous and I can see why some people would find the characters annoying or the concept tiresome. I think it just came to me at the perfect time because I remember trying to read them a few years ago and not getting past the first few chapters looool

Kinda felt like grown up twilight meets Harry Potter? I liked the abundance of different characters and representation. Felt a lot like good vs evil instead of creature vs creature.

Iâve watched A Discovery of Witches the series a few times and love it and finally decided to read the books and Iâm so happy I did. The story is so much fuller and poignant than I expected. An incredible beginning to Matthew and Dianaâs story. The only qualm I have is the amount of toast Diana eats haha. Nine pieces of toast in one sitting is very questionable, but I digress. I canât wait to read the next books and learn more about the characters. Miriam and Marcus are so much more fleshed out in this and it was nice to get some insight into them. Highly recommend reading this!

Une livre de bit lit trĂšs diffĂ©rent de ce que je lis dâhabitude, ici les lĂ©gendes sont complĂštement intĂ©grĂ© dans notre monde. Le cadre du dĂ©but est universitaire ce qui se ressent pendant tous le roman il y a Ă©normĂ©ment dâimportance accordĂ©e Ă lâhistoire, la science, la littĂ©ratureâŠ. On sent que lâautrice a dut faire un travail de recherche impressionnant puisque on a lâimpression que chaque thĂ©orie scientifique ou historique est juste. La plume et trĂšs fournie en description pourtant elle reste trĂšs Turner page on a envie dâen dĂ©couvrir plus Ă chaque page puisque le pochĂ© fait quâen mĂȘme presque 900 pages. La romance est Ă lâimage de la bit lit, passionnelle ( Mathiew dit clairement quâil dĂ©truirait nâimporte qui pour elle ) mĂȘme si pour ce qui ne sont pas amateurs de smut je pense que cela pourra vous plaire car on est plus dans de lâĂ©rotisme assez soft. SincĂšrement jâai Ă©tait absorbĂ© par ce roman qui montre les vices et pĂȘcher tout en les dĂ©nonçant, on est loins de personnages CartĂ©sien ici que ce soit les protagonistes que les antagonistes on est sur des personnages complexes . ParticuliĂšrement les vampires et les sorciers Ă lâheure actuelle. Je vous conseille de regarder aussi la sĂ©rie qui est assez fidĂšle au roman puisque la saison une et le bouquin sont quasiment identique donc bravo. Jâai hĂąte de me plonger dans la suite.

I enjoyed this book. The beginning was slow to get into but then it picked up and was enjoyable. I like that it left suspense and for you ready to dive into the next book. I love the characters and the way Matthew is protective of Diana. I love their chemistry and the love they share. I am excited for the second book.
