I'm not particularly smart when it comes to poetry so all i'll say is that I really loved the titular poem and thought the rest were just ok.

What did I just read? I am still in the awe of the images portrayed by Akbar. His poetry is a gift to the believers of dark academia, with the elements of goth and strangely haunting symbols which stay by your side every time you utter a phrase. Kaveh Akbar turns out to be Shams for me whirling in the mayhem of identity. His poetry reflects the diminutive emotions and the dots on identity drawn by social expectations. The sketches of an immigrant do justice while the alcoholic in him raises concerns on self, faith, society and the definition of freedom. I am out of words but yes KAVEH AKBAR IS A BLESSING TO THIS ERA OF DICTION.

A friend recommended this to prove good poetry could sway my relationship with poetry. It merely reinstated that I do not have the time to digest poetry. Not for me, unfortunately. I suppose I am a big, meaty, obvious sort of poetrivore.
