slow-paced
These poems were stunning and just the right amount of loose to pull me in and make me believe in the speakers' unraveling, while keeping careful tension and allowing an impressively maintained self-criticism to creak through. Also really good titles! Favorite poems include "Yeki Bood Yeki Nabood," "Portrait of the Alcoholic with Doubt and Kingfisher," "Portrait of the Alcoholic Three Weeks Sober," "Being in This World Makes Me Feel Like a Time Traveler," "Portrait of the Alcoholic with Relapse Fantasy," "Against Hell," "Tassiopeia," "Portrait of the Alcoholic with Craving," "God," and "Personal Inventory: Fearless (Temporis Fila)."
Graphic: Alcoholism
Wow. What a gorgeous collection. I must say I didn’t totally //get// what all of the poems were trying to say but overall I really enjoyed most of them. A really interesting insight into addiction. “I’m becoming more of a vessel of memories than a person / it’s a myth that love lives in the heart / it lives in the throat / we push it out when we speak”
I cannot fathom how many times I will have to reread this book to process it.

There are some beautiful gems in this collection of poems. I still find myself haunted by the line, “The things I’ve thought I’ve loved / could sink an ocean liner, and likely would // if given the chance” from the poem “Portrait of the Alcoholic with Home Invader and Housefly.”
