This book starts with a great story (Kelley Armstrong) and ends with another one (Jim Butcher), however everything in between is mediocre at best....

I was especially disappointed by the offerings of Charlaine Harris and Sherrilyn Kenyon.

"The Bear" (can't remember the author right now) was one of the stories I found to be particularly bad.

There are 21 short stories in this anthology and almost every single one was so beyond fantastic that I can't even begin to describe them! I was laughing out loud with a great number of these dark comedies. I like the twisted take of most of these stories!

Only reading the stories from authors I currently follow, so I don't feel I can rate the whole book.

"The Ungrateful Dead" Kelley Armstrong--disturbing little revenge story, but well written.

"An Evening with Al Gore" Charlaine Harris--couldn't finish it. I don't think I like her short stories.

"Where Angels Fear to Tread" Sherrilyn Kenyon--must be the prelude to a new series. Interesting characters, but I don't like that it ended so abruptly.

"Day Off" Jim Butcher--another classic day in the life of Harry Dresden. I loved it.

While I did like several of the stories a lot, a lot of the others (especially the Charlaine Harris one, because I expect better) were very disappointing.

I bought this because it has a Kelley Armstrong Women of the Otherworld short story in it. That story was great! (duh). Jamie and Savannah are a fun team. It's funny because the next WotO book I read was Waking the Witch, which briefly mentioned the events of this short story. The Charlaine Harris story was good too. I was most surprised with the short story featuring the characters from the Dresden Files. I've never read those books but really liked the story, so I'll probably be on the lookout for those. The rest were up and down, nothing too memorable.

I only read Harry's Day Off this time, but I have read a few other of the short stories, so I know this is a great anthology. Really enjoyed Harry's Day Off, it was hilarious!

Probably the best anthology I have ever read. Some of the most amazing, weird, imaginative stories I have come across.

Overall this was just a terrible collection of short stories. There were a couple that were enjoyable but mostly where just disturbing.

Many people are drawn to anthologies for a single story within them. A particular author you're obsessively reading, or a universe you don't want to miss a single facet of.

A good anthology gives you more than that. It gives you a glimpse of other writers and universes to explore and at their best can extend your To Be Read list by a dozen or more books.

Blood Lite's not one of these. I don't expect perfection in an anthology, but I prefer most of the individual stories to be worth 3/5. The majority in here sit at one or two, and some of them dip into the other side of the scale as examples of how not to do it.

A true obsessive will shrug and overpay for the short story they're here for. The more controlled amongst you would be better served by a trip to the library, reading the one you want and getting out.
