The first 50-60% of this book was absolutely insufferable. It was so long and drawn out, half of it borderline unnecessary, and FILLED with miscommunication and drama. When I say there was miscommunication, I mean levels of cliché miscommunication that set my mind back 60 iq points. When the characters finally seem to being going somewhere? Instantly interrupted.
The rest of the book was filled with conclusions the reader sees from a mile away, and the ending is atrocious. I have never felt so blue-balled by an ending in my life. Every one of these books ends the same. The romance threatened, the main character in shambles, and some vaguely ominous and horrible threat of death by the enemy.
The Guardians are probably the most insufferable aspect of this book alongside Diem’s sympathy for half of them. It’s insane.
Will I still read book 4? Yes. I need to see everything finally come together even if it means ripping my hair out along the way. I’m just glad we finally see Henri kicked to the curb. He is the worst part of this entire series.

Hoo mama, this series is so good. Devourable. Now, I think this one probably would have benefitted from some additional editing, but considering that all three books were released in a single year, with the fourth expected in just a couple months, I’m giving that a break. Overall, I think the further world-building is fabulous, and the author did an amazing job maintaining the pressure while continuing to develop the characters. Nothing felt out of place or too convenient. Chef’s kiss, satisfying.
