Nice book, predictable story line but a good read. Very interesting setting and history.

I quite liked this: the author has created an interesting magical world and the quick pace kept my interest. The mail heroine is also interesting and I’d read more about her adventures for sure. Make sure you read the 3 short stories before this one as there are callbacks (though nothing that would be confusing if you didn’t). I also really enjoyed the audiobook narrator - she did a great job and really made listening more enjoyable.

Really enjoyed and was fascinated by the word building. Almost wished there was less of the plot and more of the world / setting. I found it very engaging and wanted to delve deeper into the world. I really liked the combination of technology and fantasy and historical elements.
I found the ending to be a bit cliche, however it was still well done.

This was such a good book. It grabbed me from the first page and never let go. The characters were so well done and so interesting and so fun, and the setting was very vivid and engaging. I especially appreciated how elements of the book didn't work out quite the way I expected them to. It made the narrative feel fresh and unique. I definitely plan to read the short stories online, and I'm looking forward to more from this author.

An intriguing setting and very well crafted mystery! This was a fun read, with memorable characters and an engaging world. The strongest elements were the way the author successfully wove in a subtle social commentary throughout, and plotted out the mystery. Fatma is your quintessential eccentric lone-wolf detective paired with an upbeat partner, but is also totally fresh and unique.
