A really authentic Season 26-style story! The only things that brings it down are the threat of sexual assault against Ace (edgy men love using this sort of shit) and some odd performance choices from Sylv McCoy

A really good story that showcases the Seventh Doctor at his best manipulative, conniving, and unscrupulous self.

Could have been a bit disastrous, since the Seventh Doctor and Ace have a bit of a habit of running into Nazis, but actually turns into a rather good story of time paradoxes. Nasty German guard Kurtz is played by one David Tennant.

This story is a real cracker! It's a WWII story doing it's very best to maintain the trappings of a taut Nazi prison thriller while still being Doctor Who. And it works pretty well! Ace is oddly convincing blustering her way around Colditz Castle like she's the bravest, angriest, Brit the Germans have ever seen (who believes she can escape because she's done it in a board game) and Doc Seven, while a little histrionic, does his best to keep the situation feeling weighty.
There's a lot of continuity stuff going that starts here, but none of it is terribly critical.
A disclaimer, though... For those of us who are fond of the post-cancellation, pre-new series years, the Virgin New Adventures Seventh Doctor and Ace/Dorothy are fairly critical to our understanding of The Doctor over all. A lot of who that character is is built in those novels and in these audio dramas. If you don't like Sylv and Soph. this is still fun, but knock a star off.

I haven't listened to too many Seventh Doctor audio adventures, but I liked this one. Ace is always good, and it was interesting to hear David Tennant as the baddie, since this was made before the show came back. Decent story, side good characters.
