Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for this ARC.

Perhaps I've just gone through too many cookbooks lately, but nothing in here really blew my mind. None of the receipes made me jump up and think I need to make it ASAP. It's just an okay cookbook.

A lot of easy, kid/family friendly recipes (most of which contain bacon, so, not particularly healthy). I felt like I have seen many of these recipes before in other places (Pinterest, primarily), so there wasn’t a whole lot of innovation or ingenuity at play here. The author does state in the beginning that she was not a chef, nor did she claim to be, but it didn’t change the fact that these recipes fell flat for me and the book itself came across as self promotional; a collection of photos peppered with recipes.

Recipes I have tried:

Lemon Spinach Shrimp Pasta: Too acidic but easily fixed up- 4 Stars
Lemon basil Pasta: Level out the lemon and its a 5 Star dish
Empanadas: Easy and cheap, crowd pleaser, could use more spice/veggies/cheese. Tried frying also- 4 Stars
Honey Fried Chicken: Very sweet but a little bland. I used a spicy hot honey and it was much better! 3 Stars as is, 4.5 with hot honey

Here’s the thing - Jessie says on the first page, “Hopefully, what you’ll love about my cookbook is how easy these recipes are. I am not a chef, nor do I pretend to be. What I am is a prideful home cook . . .” Jessie James Decker fans love her attitude, her charisma, and her relatability. Is this a simple book with simple recipes I could find on Pinterest? Yes. Is this book also exactly what I would realistically expect from JJD? Absolutely. I think it would be unfair to put this book up there with Joanna Gaines or Rachael Ray when critiquing it. That’s not why Jessie wrote this!

Simple, yet easy foods

Simple recipes that you can follow and they all look very delicious and easy to do. Might write some of them down to try.

Great cookbook for a beginner in the kitchen. They are really easy and fun dishes for all the family. I wish it came with a calorie counter for each dish but overall, I use this book regularly. So money well spent for me
