I sped through this. It takes a while to really understand the world you've been thrown into and all the character relationships, but I had a lot of fun once I felt up to speed. The side character relationships are entertaining. The main relationship... sweet or really twisted? Guess it depends on your perspective. I did find the ending very abrupt.

I couldn't put this down once I got into it (even though I was so confused by the complicated and barely explained political intrigue plotline and also hate reading through certain POV chapters). I really wanted it to go somewhere good, and I kept thinking it was about to get there. But in the end, this was a cast of almost all incredibly unlikeable and toxic characters, and a plot that felt like you arrived late to an extremely important meeting but nobody was willing to catch you up on the conversation. The central romance had promise and I kept reading assuming the narrative was going to resolve somehow and not be just "what are all these shitty people up to now as they continue to be shitty and have no personal growth" but it never did.

London is dealing with a severe water crisis and to make things worse is its all controlled by one family who has a pharmaceutical empire. Javier and his sister Corinna are members of this family. Ethan is a healer who falls for Javier. Love now has Ethan entangled in Javier and Corinna's family is complex family of secrets and potential criminal activity related to Project Earthflown. To top it off water rights activists are dying and a journalist is asking too many questions. I liked the the themes of water resource crises, privatization and corruption as well as the use of magic in a near future capitalist society. Where is lost me a bit was the lack of resolution and sometimes the story just came off as disjointed at times. Overall it was a good read though.
