This was a lot of fun. It had romance, action, supernatural themes and set in the Victorian period in London. All things I enjoy reading.

I'm sure there's lots more detail in the novel, but I loved the illustrations in this graphic novel and feel it brought the book to life.

I'm glad I have the others to continue on with, can't wait to sink my teeth into them. Pun intended ;-)

I really enjoyed reading this!
I read the Parasol Protectorate series 7 years ago, so it's been great to refresh the story.

I picked this up earlier tonight, and I have to say I loved it. I read the book when that first came out, and this just makes me want to go back and read it again.
I enjoyed seeing how the charaters were brought to life in the managa. Even the tacky hats Ivy wears are in there :) Seeing the actual facial expressions Connal has throughout the manga just made it even more funm I could not stop laughing while I was reading this.
If you have read the book, I highly suggest grabbing this to add to your collection also

Normally I don't really read Graphic Novels. I usually miss the context, the inner monologues, the depth and the true emotions. However, when I could get these graphic novels for a great price from Facebook I decided to give it a go. Before I dove into this graphic novel though, I made sure to read the original novel. I kinda hoped that it was a little like watching a movie based on a book you love. It's not the same and the book is better, but it's still nice.

And that strategy clearly worked, especially because I really loved the novel and this way I could revisit it without having to re-read it. I quite liked the art in this graphic novel. It fit perfectly with the atmosphere of the story, with the time period and the characters of course. I don't really have images in mind when reading, but the way the characters were drawn and the way the locations were drawn brought my emotions to life in a natural way.

I still think that if you only read this graphic novel and not the original novel you're missing out. The story goes amazingly fast in this version, while the original novel is more on the slower side, a little more like the Jane Austen novels it is inspired by. Therefore you miss some amazing tension, some background and of course quite some mythological explanations. It's easy to follow the story this way, but it's much more fun to read the original novel.

However, I will happily use the same tactic with the next two books. I already bought the second novel, which wasn't included in the big pile of second hand books I bought, and I'm planning on reading it quite soon. And once I finish that second book I will pick up the second graphic novel to relive the story and to have it brought to color a little more. I'm quite excited. This story would work as a stand-alone, but the possibilities in this world are still endless!

Trying out some manga, and since this is an adaptation of a book I read (and liked) and reads front to back left to right, it was doable. Not exactly the *true* manga experience, but it's a start...full review to come!

This adaptation of Gail Carriger's Soulless is surprisingly entertaining, with a lot of lovely art and a script that gives the original work a fresh look for a new audience of readers. If you have not gotten on the teapunk bandwagon, then now is the time to do so!

You can soon read my proper review of this graphic novel over at my blog: http://nagareboshi-reviews.blogspot.com/

I picked this up purely for the art (the gorgeous linework! the fancy dresses! everyone's delicate eyelashes!) but the story is so fun and funny, plus I love Alexia and Lord Maccon's interactions so much that I am actually going to read the novel. So this manga did a pretty good job as promotion for the book series.

The story zips along quite fast as it's a manga adaptation of a full-length novel, and I felt there were tons of things that were left vague or unexplained. For example, just what does it mean to be soulless? As far as I can tell, it really doesn't affect Alexia's life that much aside from being able to neutralize supernatural abilities. Lots of things about the setting aren't really explained either, but the story is still understandable regardless.

I love love love the character designs for basically all the major characters and the artist did such an expressive and beautiful job with the artwork. I want to read the rest of the manga for sure, but I have also already picked up the Soulless novel.
