Was super boring to me at first during the more historical fiction-y parts such that I almost quit and took a months long break. I came back to It though! Thinking It was an important read (Pulitzer prize winning) but I was honestly just confused. This is about an intersex protagonist which is a perspective I’d love to hear from but the author isn’t intersex, soooo feels false. I can understand how It won a Pulitzer Prize hearing about someone who’s intersex (even tho it’s fake/fiction) would be more groundbreaking but today I’m just wondering why this book exists. The protagonist is Greek and grows up in Detroit and so does the author (despite It being fiction) but the protagonist is not intersex so why write from that “POV”? Also It was so long and It felt longer which is a sign of a bad book.
I'm more annoyed than interested so I'm just gonna move on

the pacing felt a bit off to me. I wish the first half was shorter and the last quarter was longer.
loved learning about detroit’s history, along with the runaway plotline towards the end

This is one of those books that made me love reading again. It is beautifully written and kept me entertained throughout the entirety of the story. The 1/2 star is for the ending, which definitely went off the rails a little bit in plot. I loved the generational timeline, the way that the plot was revealed, and the sequence of events. It was all quite satisfying to read! Highly recommend!
