this was such a mid book it actually took me forever to get through. I was left with so many unanswered questions and the beginning was boring

I haven't visited Kinsey in quite some time, so it was nice to check in on her again and see what she was up to. This wasn't my favorite of her adventures, but it held my attention well and had plenty of interesting characters and an intriguing premiss. The cold case angle was nice to explore and only possible in a small town like this where everyone knew each other and had pretty much stayed around. The only thing that tripped me up a bit was that it was hard to keep up with all of the men Violet slept with. Grafton is nothing if not consistent.

I started out really liking the style that Grafton used to tell this story--taking us back every few chapters so we could see what actually happened to the people she was investigating decades later. Unfortunately, the story of these people was too racy (tawdry) for my taste. I also felt like she left the story with way too many unanswered questions and I don't think it was clear why the murderer did it! Annoying.

Kinsey Milhone is like an old friend, good to sit down with for a while even after all these years.

This is the only book in the series that I hadn't read. Don't know how/why it was skipped. As always, a fun, fast read. Good story that holds up to the end, great characters, and Kinsey. Doesn't get much better than that.
