I love David Sedaris, and his newest book was no exception. He had me laughing and teary eyed, all on the same page.
Every time I read Sedaris, I painfully wish that I could write about my family the way he does.
David Sedaris is a genius. He is so funny and insightful and heartwarming and I really just can't get enough.
This may be my favourite collection yet. Stepping Out, The Perfect Fit and I'm Still Standing being my personal highlights.
If you like Sedaris do yourself a favour and get this on Audible too - him reading it adds a whole additional layer of magic.

There are the two David Sedarises in this book. The first one is this bizarre individual who knows he's bizarre and ridiculous. The one who lets a stranger excise a tumor from him. The one who informs the world of the really great, foul things you might yell at someone else in traffic in another country. The one who delights in awful Japanese fashion with his sisters. I also think this is the David who writes some honest, touching things about himself and the people he loves ("Rooster At The Hitchin' Post" being an all-time favorite).
Then there's the other David Sedaris, who pops up nearer the end of the book. This David Sedaris is out of his own world and in ours. I don't dislike this David Sedaris, but I find the other one a lot more interesting. A lot of folks write about their existential horror after the election, but damn few write about telling a story at the dinner table that involves a young woman in cutoff jean shorts shitting her pants while her feet are up on the dashboard of her date's car.

Funny as always. It's nice to see him opening up about the painful stuff, too.

PopSugar 2023 reading challenge #8
I'm not going to lie... I didn't know who David Sedaris was when I picked up this book. It was just part of my BOTM reading challenge. And then it was part of my Popsugar 2023 reading challenge. However, I'm enthralled and now must learn all I can about Sedaris. This series of memoirs was funny, sad, happy, exciting, etc., just an entire gambit of emotions. Truly exciting to listen to on audiobook.

David's self deprecating humor and vulnerability in this book are a joy to hear. As with anything he writes - listening to him read it is the only way to enjoy it. The mixture of live recordings and booth recordings are a pleasure to listen to.
This book creates a warm and funny picture of Hugh - a man I know so little about and yet know so well.

Yet another gem from David Sedaris.
There is so much to relate to in his books, this one even more so than all the others for me when he talks of his relationship with his father. It is so like my relationship with mine.
And lying in bed laughing out loud at the live tapings while deciding whether to wake the husband and have listen too, or to just try to not disturb him!
Just wonderful as always.

Great audiobook. Very funny and engaging since it’s read by author.
