funny relaxing fast-paced

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I really like David Sedaris’ writing style a lot. Similar essay/short story chapters to Joan Didion or Patti Smith, with a larger story flowing across the whole book. Love the authors curiousness and thought-provoking questions, sometimes obscene which makes it all the more interesting. Very funny but doesn’t shy away from being what’s matter-of-fact in his eyes, his storytelling keeps you wanting more, reading to find out what’s next.

It was very funny by as a rich old man, he seems to have less to be funny about

pure delight.

3.5 Stars.
At times really, really funny (I was uncontrollably laughing for about 5 minutes about the dog and the tumor), and at times a little depressing (the way he treated his sister near the end of the book). I generally really liked it. There's no plot, though I think there is a chronology of events more or less; I guess I didn't know what to expect.
The way he tells his stories keeps you engaged at all times whether or not you want to hear the story, which is just what you want from a story teller.

I am mighty sorry but this might just be the most overrated book that I have read in a very long time. The hype was huge and I felt let down from the very beginning. Dubbed hilarious and yet I cracked two smiles- reflected in the two star rating.
