I had a hard time continuing to listen to the book due to the place I am in currently financially. I had a difficult time relating to the authors anecdotes about living in France, walking all day to increase step counts on the Fitbit, and buying beach homes. Nothing against David Sedaris… but it was just a little triggering for me at this stage in my life, would like to come back when I am out of grad school.
I laughed, I cried, I had many epiphanies, and I shall stop saying the word "awesome."

I thought Me Talk Pretty One Day was hilarious in high school, and I haven't read anything else of Sedaris's until now. I didn't find this one particularly funny; there was a few moments, but not nearly as many as I expected. Maybe I'm the wrong age or something, because this particular set of story-musings just wasn't nearly as funny or relatable.

I began listening to this audiobook on a long road-trip and really enjoyed it! I imagine I would have liked this book had I read the hardcopy version or had it been narrated by another person, but it was especially fun to listen to this book as read by the author. It felt very much like a one-on-one standup performance and was such a fun listen.
3.5 stars
Took me a few pages to get into this book, and then I really liked some of the stories. I'm giving it 3.5 stars because a few stories were funny but there were also some stories that I felt mweh about. I understand the laughing out loud part people say about Sedaris his novels now but I don't really get the feeling sad part? Like sad things happened - his sister killing herself - but because that was the first story about her, I felt no attachment to her so I was like ok.
