This one felt like a navigation in grief. Joy, heartache, love, and laughter.

[5/5 ★★★★★] ,“I like the stars. It's the illusion of permanence, I think. I mean, they're always flaring up and caving in and going out. But from here, I can pretend...I can pretend that things last.”

Road trip!

In my review of the previous issue, [b:The Sandman, Vol. 6: Fables and Reflections|25106|The Sandman, Vol. 6 Fables and Reflections (The Sandman, #6)|Neil Gaiman|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1311961999s/25106.jpg|181895], I mentioned how the story stood strong despite the main character's lack of presence.

This collection was the opposite: We focus on the stoic, brooding Morpheus and his eclectic family, the Endless. At the behest of his sister Delirium, Morpheus joins her on a waking-world road trip in search for their long-lost brother, Destruction. Thematically, you can catch some parallels with another Gaiman work, his novel [b:American Gods|30165203|American Gods|Neil Gaiman|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1462924585s/30165203.jpg|1970226]. What can immortals learn from humans and vice versa?

Volumes 6 and 7 link up nicely with each other, as you encounter characters and storylines in Vol. 7 which occurred in the former. My reading them back-to-back was the way to go.

Upon concluding this demanding and thoughtful read, this is certainly my favorite Sandman entry to date.

5 Stars

Dream and Delirium seek Destruction. It's a family affair.

4.5! Amazing! I love this series. It all ties together so well. Gaiman is a master author.

Best story focused volume yet (think my favourite is still Fables and Reflections). I think so far in the series my biggest gripe has been how unfocused it has been on Dream, so I'm glad this one delved deeper into his character and how much he has changed since his imprisoment. The highlight of this volume though was definitely Delirium, who I think may be my favourite character in The Sandman.
