I read the previous book about 6 months ago and the one before in 2019. I forgot how mean Angie is and honestly Amanda. Didn’t like how they treated Will in this one. Did love the moments between Sarah and Will. Viscerally reacted to what they did to Faith’s mom

So this is a personal thing. I generally likes this book. Except. I'm sick and fucking tired of the whole broken dysfunctional bullshit about adoptees and birthmothers. Give me a break. Of course it's painful and difficult and awkward. But this trope of adoptees or birthmothers going serial killer? Bullshit. Stupid. Middle finger to all the writers who use it. Bitter? Yes.

I did not expect this ending, but I was so pleasantly surprised by it. This Will Trent book definitely hit differently since the victim was someone we already knew. Although, we learned so much more about Evelyn, Faith and their family in this book. I also did not think I could like Angie less, but I was ready to jump through the pages and really lay into her for what she was doing to Will. I am still loving this series. It's just the right amount of crime, mystery, drama and light romance.

Another intense crime thriller featuring Will Trent. The stakes are high. The suspense and stress teetering on the brink of madness. The mystery behind Evelyn Mitchell's kidnapping has Will digging into the past. His relationships with Faith, Sara, and Amanda are tested. This installment brought more insight into these characters. Their strengths and vulnerabilities were brought into the light.

Great narration. I didn't want to stop listening.

I love this series, and I liked this book in particular, because it seems to be a turning point for our good Special Agent Will Trent.
