I love it when I can giggle when I read. Puns will do that to you. There were some groans, too.

Aesop's fables get a modern retelling in this quirky book, reminiscent of Louis Sachar's Wayside School. I particularly enjoyed Fleming's take on "The Tortoise and the Hare." In this version, two kids take part in a poetry race, trying to see who can memorize the most lines of poetry in a week. The not so surprising ending gives new meaning to "slow and steady wins the race" and reminds us that there's a poem for everyone.

It's also clear that Fleming is no fan of No Child Left Behind, and I got a chuckle from several of the not-so-subtle jabs at standardized testing.

I gave this 3 stars as I know some of my humor loving students will enjoy the puns. I didn’t love the book as I felt it was a bit scattered.

Jane's teacher read this to her at school & I was curious about it. It's somewhat similar to Wayside School by Louis Sachar. I did like the morals at the end of each chapter.

Like Louis Sachar's Wayside School, the children of Aesop Elementary School and their teachers are absurd and hilarious. These stories are short and complete with morals like those of Aesop's fables.

Silly, good-humored, fun. Similar to Wayside school, but more loosely plotted, which is fine. You almost feel as if the author is writing for both the teacher and students because the faculty room jokes and stereotypes are spot on - again, in a good way. I'd recommend to boys and girls - grades 3-5.
