2.5 rounded up. Found it very "meh", so much in fact that it's taken me longer than usual to write this review. I just don't have much to say about it. I wasn't crazy about the first novel either, but the sequel was readily available in audiobook so I figured it was worth a shot. I had a hard time caring about any of the problems they were having. Nothing felt especially urgent, though the narrative wanted you to feel that way.
That said, the novel was entertaining enough, so while I won't be recommending it, I don't really feel that it was a massive waste of time.

I devoured this sequel. How incredibly satisfying it is, after having previously devoured The Family Upstairs, to return to this universe, to these people, and finally learn what became of them all. I can’t recommend this book enough.

It's rare for the second book in a two-book series to be just as good as the first, but this one definitely is. I loved all the twists, especially Rachel knowing the secret—totally caught me off guard. Michael got exactly what he deserved. The ending was a big surprise and absolutely perfect!

This book was a total disappointment for me. In all honestly I put it down after 200 pages. I spent most of it super annoyed that I couldn’t recall most of the events and characters from the first book. But yet it did not spark my interest enough to want to go back and try to remember.
