This was the perfect book to start the new year. The characters are interesting and how can a book lover not like a story about a library?! My only issue is that the author chose to use a fictional place in Ireland as the setting. I really wish she had used a real place. I'm visual and like to look at maps of places new to me. It was hard to visualize some things.
Though I was frustrated with the main character at times, overall I found this book charming. Hanna’s life is shattered when she catches her husband in bed with another woman. She returns home to the small Irish town where she grew up and moves in with her mother. Just when she decides to take out a loan to remodel an old shack she inherited, she finds out that she may soon lose her job at the tiny community library. I love the way the library becomes the heart of the community and ends up bringing everyone together.
I actually loved this book! Full of quirky, original characters, this book made me smile repeatedly throughout. And who doesn’t love the idea of a traveling book mobile motoring thru the Irish countryside? This is a quiet, simple book with great character development and lots of well described scenery. Looking forward to the 2nd book in this series.
This book was a bit hard for me to start. Several of the characters were flawed (and I mean that in a good way; not cookie-cutter) but some of them were a bit too one-dimensional. I particularly found the ex-husband character to have no nuance.
What I did enjoy about this book were the descriptions of the microcosm of small town life. I feel that the author did a good job of showing the joys and challenges of living in such a small community.
My friend would call it "brain candy but good candy."
Also the reader on the audiobook had a beautiful voice.

this is a very slow paced book. Hanna is kind of hard to get to know as she closes out most people. I do like that she travels to other towns to give them library books that they might otherwise not be able to get. I felt that there could have been a bit more romance (there isn't a whole lot) and that might have made me give more stars..... it was ok, not was I was expecting or hoping.
Honestly, in hindsight, I should’ve stopped reading this. The writing-style was nice and for that, I say 3 stars- others may enjoy it. But overall, I was bored and the closer I got to the end, the more I realized I didn’t care what happened. But the further along I got, the closer I was to the end so why not finish it? Ugh. Oh well.
While I enjoyed the setting of the book and thought the author's description of the setting were lovely, I had a hard time finishing the book. I think this book's plot could have been much better -- the ending was the best part because the plot finally picked up. Too many characters and not enough authentic character building for me. It was a nice and light read, but I probably wouldn't recommend it.
I picked this one up looking for a cozy feel-good novel for these stressful times. Unfortunately, I didn't really start to connect with the main character until the last 100 pages or so. By the time, I felt really interested in what was going on the book was over. If I owned the next book in the series, I would probably pick it up, knowing that it would be continuing on from a good place.
In Library at the Edge of the World, we get to know the story behind Hanna Casey, a women who wishes for a fresh start. After discovering a twenty-year affair between her husband and his long-term mistress, Hanna and her daughter pick up and move to the Finfarren Peninsula of Ireland to live with her mother in her hometown. In this feel good story, we root for Hanna and her pursuit of a fresh start and a happy, fulfilling life. While slow at times, Felicity Hayes- McCoy (author), finds a way to place you right there on the West Coast of Ireland, cliff side. I listened to this via Audiobook and fell in love with the Irish countryside. Recommended.
