If this is the author's debut, I'm definitely going to keep reading her! I suspect that some of the things that made me cringe will get better and better as her pen finds its footing.
A very entertaining story that starts when the reality Birdie lives in fades away, she has to find out who she truly is and there she will find not only her entire birth family who are still looking for her, but also Lonan, the brother's best friend and her first crush.
I love the "it's always been you" trope and this book does an excellent job of developing it.
A special mention for Jack, Birdie's brother, who rarely appears but every time he does it is to add a funny touch to a rather sad plot.
A book with everything we are looking for, which I enjoyed very much. Now on to the series.

Ugh. I really wanted to like this book! The first 50% was good and then it just got worse, and worse.
The things I liked:
1. The whole premise of Birdies history was fascinating!
2. the tropes - brothers best friend, hockey, he falls first, forced proximity have the potential to be all my favourite things
3. I definitely cried during her mom and daughter reunion.

And now for the things that I didn’t like
4. We really just glossed over the whole Lonan
telling the media
thing
5. The games they play with each other made me mad and had me rolling my eyes. Especially the whole Nikki thing at the end. Come on.
6. I felt like the inner diologue was confusing when contrasted with their actions. They were never together , but then thought a proposal was logical? Yelling I love you was romantic? They were only friends but sleeping together constantly? The back and forth and confusing nature of that pulled me right out of the story
7. Proposing while angry fucking back together? That really sealed the whole book as a flop for me.
8. I think there was depth to the characters, their story, and their relationship that was really missing.

Ehhhh I liked the concept but so much was missing. I didn’t need Jennifer Hartman level sadness but for this story to be able a kidnap victim I just expected better better story telling!
