Blah. I loved the setting - the wheat fields of North Dakota. But oh my god what an idiotic heroine! She's just so very, very young for her age. Which is not a fault, and well written to be sure, she feels very real. But she's too young for the romance and the story to interest me at all. I just don't care about what an 18-going-on-14 year old thinks or does.
As for the title - Years - I was expecting a sweeping saga. This only covered a couple of years of the early 20th century. The vast majority of the story took place over less than six months. Again, a disappointment because if I have to put up with such a naive heroine at the start of a story, I darn well expect to see her progress to someone a lot more interesting decades later by the end. Nope.
