I was surprised how much I liked this book. I’m leaving a review several days from finishing it and the more I reflect, the better I thought it was. It’s a relatively slow book, but I didn’t feel like I was dragging through, but instead just enjoying it at its own pace. And then watching the horrible storytelling of the HBO series after reading, it made me realize how well-webbed this book was.

reflective
My kind of book--a tapestry of characters, a sprinkling of sci-fi, reflections on how we use art to make meaning in our lives. Really lovely stuff. Left me very grateful for modern conveniences.

My favorite book in a while. While it’s weird to read a book about a pandemic, written before the pandemic, it was a wonderfully immersive story. I loved the characters and the world building and the community of the orchestra.

The writing was meh. The story was interesting enough to keep me reading, but I’ve DNFed better books.
