I had semi high hopes for this novel, since I love this genre, but ultimately I was fairly dissapointed. The writing was beautiful at its best, and downright sloppy at its worst. The POV's of this story were fine in their own right, but the threads weaving together were not good in my opinion. The characters were not very deep and the ending was meh.
Overall, while I liked it somewhat, I cannot recommend this novel for fans of the Post-Apocalyptic genre. Read The Stand or Swan Song. Those are infinitely better.

“This life was never ours,” she whispers to the dog, who has been following her from room to room, and Luli wags her tail and stares at Miranda with wet brown eyes. “We were only ever borrowing it.”
First book of the year!
Beautiful, poetic, descriptive writing takes you into a post-apocalyptic world following a pandemic.
Sound familiar?
Written in 2014, ESJM weaves a story of five individuals who are all connected to each other in one way or another. Traveling back and forth in time, we get a full development of each of the five characters experiences.
At the heart of this story there’s a graphic novel titled “Station Eleven” that’s written and illustrated by one of the characters. I’m hoping that someday ESJM releases the graphic novel as a companion to this incredible book.
What a great read for my first book of 2023!

emily st john mandel's words established the depressing, post-apocalyptic mood this book needed. the characters' past memories made it gloomier 🥲

Thoroughly enjoyed this read. I enjoyed the non-linear storytelling and all of the characters and how they all felt connected through one specific character. The writing was good, a little clunky in some places but not so much to spoil the overall feel. I personally would have preferred the Prophet to have played a bigger role or presented as a bigger threat overall but regardless, this is still a very enjoyable book. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys post-apocalyptic speculative fiction.
Graphic: Suicide, Pandemic/Epidemic, Death, Murder, Animal death, and Kidnapping
Moderate: Child death, Gun violence, Religious bigotry, Pedophilia, Rape, and Grief
Minor: Abandonment, Violence, Racism, and Death of parent
A lot of these things are not focused or dwelled on, apart from the pandemic of the Georgia Flu. I have noted racism mostly due to the naming of the Georgia Flu.katiepearl's review against another edition

Wow! stunning storytelling. Second book by Emily St John Mandel and makes me want to read all her books. Also makes me never want to travel on a plane alone again.
