This was my second time reading something by S.L. Prater, and it did not disappoint! I don’t read enough gaslamp fantasy, but this definitely checked off all my boxes and more!

“Mated to the Mad Marquess” was Malcolm and Hrafn’s story, and it was absolutely amazing - it had all the snarky banter, incredible spice, and the perfect amount of angst.

I thought Malcolm was the perfect swoony MMC. He was kindhearted and fair, and entirely determined to do what was right, even if it hurt him in the process.

As for Hrafn, I loved that she wasn’t your typical damsel in distress type of FMC. She was bold and brave, intelligent and spunky. I also loved how capable and tenacious she was.

Malcolm and Hrafn had this fiery chemistry that I adored. Even when they hadn’t entirely accepted their mate bond (and were in fact trying to ignore it) there was something about them that kept me invested in them and their relationship.

All in all, this was a fabulous book featuring two wonderful, if stubborn, fictional characters that I loved reading about. This was most definitely a 5 star read for me!

It feels a little fairy and a little regency without being too ridiculous. I'm not sure I liked the lady, but I'm not sure I didn't either.

I had so much fun with this read! The main characters are so cute in their stabby ways of expressing love! That might not sound logical, but it is xD The spice is *chef's kiss* The side characters are cute as well, with Clapa stealing the show. A funny, sexy, and sweet romance - the Mad Marquess is yet another fae trickster vying for my reader's heart!

ARC Review

Why do all the books I read lately make me cry? Is it me? Is it the beautiful writing? Who knows. This was funny and cosy and wholesome. The characters are well rounded and not tropey at all, which I deeply appreciate. As always, magic and world-building are on point in this series. Love the subversion of gender roles and the queer normative aspects too. I don't want to spoil anything but both Malcolm and Hafrn are great characters, endearing and with a hint of trauma. I love they act their ages (hundreds of years old). She trains him (thank you very much). Smut is hot. The shadow magic take was different and perfection (hello, shadow babies). Is Clapa the best secondary character ever? She might be.

Yes to everything S. L Prater writes.

Fated mates couple that uses cute violence as a way of showing affections, it's so sweet. Hero has to take care of his shadow babies cause he's the best shadow daddy, absolutely adorable.

When vi*lence is a love language ! Soooo much fire between Hrafn and Malcom, that was explosive and I wasn’t expecting so much game between them and I loved it.

I also loved the whole concept behind Malcolm's powers and the baby shadow, and his separate soul, that was truly

Yet another great book from this series. I am both excited and sad that it will soon be coming to an end...I'll still be devouring the last book whole, though.

This installation is definitely very "fluffy". I went into this expectating a large confrontation with some great power, but honestly the monster in this book is fairly trivial throughout the whole thing. The plot mainly focuses on the relationship between the two main characters.
