An adorable story filled with adventure, humor and art. What else could you want? Precocious Claudia is fed up with her domestic life, deciding to teach her parents a lesson in appreciation by temporarily running away. She hatches a plan and forcefully invites her "moneybags" brother along for the ride. They steal away to the MET and quickly find themselves fascinated with the origin of a certain statue. Their research leads them to meet a generous and intriguing elderly woman. The three of them develop a special bond over art as she helps them find their way home. I adored it. Strong recommend.

I know I'm not the intended audience, but I can't leave a book on my shelf unread so its time finally came.
It seems like everyone I know who has read this book loved it, but I wasn't that big on it. Yes, hiding in a museum was a clever plot, but I just could not stand Claudia. She was driving me crazy from the beginning. Also, the constant nagging of what the letter at the beginning had to do with anything made me want to hurry through the whole adventure.

I adored this book when I was a kid. What kid doesn't dream of running away and spending the night in the museum? So cool.

I should have read this book when I was a kid. My adult self liked the book, but I'm quite certain my 4th or 5th grade self would have absolutely adored reading about Claudia & Jamie's adventures in the museum.

Such a great book. The plot is already so fun with the two children, Jamie and Claudia, running away and living in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Then, these kids themselves are so funny and they have such a great sibling dynamic.

If you've never read this book, or you haven't read it since you were 10 or 11... well, it REALLY holds up.
Set in 1967 New York, it builds around its youthful characters an atmosphere that almost feels like an alternate universe. Delightful book. The writing is so nimble that I'm sure I didn't fully appreciate it when I read it as a child. Definitely a nice payoff to reading it as an adult.
