I loved this book in sixth grade and I love it maybe even more at 33. The nostalgia was exactly what I needed.

Pure nostalgia! I loved this as a kid and this re-read lived up to my memory of it. I also loved the little illustrations within, and the context added afterwards in this edition.

This was short, and sweet and charming. I thought it would make a great movie, then found out it already is. I'm a little behind the times, apparently.

Loved it.

I read this mostly because of it being central to Ban This Book by Alan Gratz. It did not disappoint and was a fun little adventure.

Such an entertaining adventure filled with arguments about grammar and an Italian Renaissance mystery for the ages! I am looking forward to reading this with my students.

Overall Thoughts
I thought this was a fun and delightful middle grade novel. I think I would have really enjoyed this book when I was in elementary or middle school.

Things I Didn't Like
There was a weird moment of cultural fetishization that would make me not want to hand this book to a young person now.

I used to read this to my class every year as a read aloud. It is a great story for boys and girls!
