Not my favorite Christina Lauren book. It felt like it spent too much time on the past and then rushed through everything else.
I never really felt much about Sam. I almost started to in the first half, but he's just very meh.
Also, I wish we had seen more of the women in Tate's life. We get lots of the strict side of Nana at the beginning, but too little of the other sides of her, and the amazing women Tate surrounds herself with.

The first portion of this book reads like a very badly written YA book. It's cheesy and predictable, and not in a good way. The second portion of the book, while still cheesy and predictable, is much more "Christina Lauren." It's nicely paced, and it's a cute little rom-com. Even if I could successfully repress the first portion, I would say it's not their best work, but hopefully their next one will be.

It started as a modern day version of A Room With A View and I was totally ready for it. Then it went to a film set. It touched briefly on interracial marriage and racism in America. It was disjointed and choppy.

Next time I hope they do a retelling of A Room With A View like Curtis Sittenfeld did Pride and Prejudice. Too bad.

At the risk of encouraging folks to dwell on their exes and keep dreaming of a second chance, this book explores the depth of betrayal and lingering love. The character dynamics are well-developed and I couldn’t put it down. I only wish that there was more time spent in the lead-up to the romantic relationship. There is too much hand-waving to justify that sometimes things move quickly.

I’m not sure where all the hate comes from on this book. Is it my favorite Christina Lauren? Not particularly but they have a huge backlog of books and there are some solid gems in there (I’m not getting into Love and Other Words though, that one still angers me). The young insta love I think was overall charming and ethereal the way that adventure love can often be. Once the story shifted to the cinematic behind the scenes, I really liked the way the narration shifted into a unique combination of screenwriting and novel-esque descriptors. There is a lot of second chance energy and maybe that’s part of what’s driving things but ultimately I enjoyed the ride and felt the way the storyline progressed was perfect for the characters’ development.

fast-paced

Always love Christina Lauren books, but couldn’t get fully on board with this one. Some characters’ decisions didn’t make sense to me and would have liked more backstory

Not my favorite. The writing felt forced for most of the book, and I did not feel like the ends justified the means with the male lead’s betrayal. Probably not a good first introduction to this author for me.
