What a book. I completely understand why it’s a classic. The love, sacrifices, rigor and expectations that the women of the Joy Luck Club both experienced and placed on their own daughters is heavy and is part of a cycle that’s hard to not repeat even with the best of intentions.
I made the mistake of finishing this in an airport after a bad night’s sleep and am an emotional wreck!!!

first amy tan did not disappoint. 1 star removed as i felt at times the plot was dragging on, i also wished for more connection between the daughters of the mothers. otherwise a brilliant novel that perfectly encapsulates complex relationships without unnecessary justifications
