Amy Lea is an automatic-buy author for me after reading the first two books of her “Influencer series” (Set on You and Exes & O’s, with The Catch coming out in 2024!). She knows how to write relatable and endearing characters, so I was very excited to read Woke Up Like This. As someone who watched “13 Going on 30” several times over the years (yikes…I am getting old….the movie came out in 2004), I knew immediately I was going to love this book! And I did! It was heartwarming, sweet, and a cozy read before I dive into all of my fall seasonal reads.
This book is perfect for someone looking for a very similar storyline to “13 Going on 30”, a great arc of enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, as well as a small town/hometown romance.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an Advanced Reader Copy of this book in exchange for a honest review!

What happens if you fall through time and wind up engaged to your worst enemy? I’m this cute 13 going on 30 esque rom com that’s exactly what happens to Charlotte and JT while they’re setting up for prom.
This book was adorable and the plot was a fun twist on one of my favorite movies.

Cute!
This was a really cute book! It was pretty predictable with all the stereotypical rom-com elements, but i still enjoyed it!

"It was a feeling that crept up on me slowly, so naturally that it felt like coming home."
What an adorable book! I loved Amy Lea's reimagining of 13 Going on 30 and the twists she put on the story. For one, the fact that both Char and Renner get propelled into the future was a fun new way of doing a time travel romance. I also loved all the pop culture references sprinkled throughout the book, including Renner listing off every time travel movie he knew.
And don't think "Woke Up Like This" is just a fluffy, cotton candy sweet story with no substance. Lea also weaves heartwarming and thoughtful moments throughout that round out the story and give the characters depth. I can easily see this becoming a movie and I would watch it in a heartbeat!
The Vibes: 13 Going on 30, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, 10 Things I hate About You
Spice Level Bell Pepper: kissing, mentions of nudity but nothing descriptive, appropriate for teens
Tropes: Time Travel, Enemies to Lovers, Opposites Attract
Triggers: none of the big ones; mentions of sibling and parent death and depression

I did not enjoy the opening of this book. I didn’t like the main character until later in the book. The opening scenes didn’t hold my interest. However, when the main character wakes up in the big change, the plot became more interesting, and the character grew to be more likeable. By the last few chapters, I couldn’t put this book down.
