The longest I have spent reading such a short book - Kafka did what Kafka always does; forcing the reader to re-read sentences, set the book down & ask “what the f*** did I just read?”
This book is so hard to rate - do I recommend it? Yes. Was it a top, fav read? No. However, if you wish to explore Kafka’s work, this is definitely the book to read (arguably his best work, despite it being unfinished).

What a tough, brilliant little book, the gravity of which is deceptive given the length.
A biting, infuriating indictment on law, government, power and innocence. Impossible to articulate as well as others on here, but suffice it to say it progresses into a crescendo of injustice and scathe.
I’ll read it again one day, if not for it’s message but it’s fun writing style and surreal dialogue.
