Jenn Lyons

4.2 AVERAGE

how to have jenn lyons mind. insane.

i really didn’t think this book would take place over like ten hours max?

someone needs to sit down and write a comprehensive history of everything bc the amount of flashbacks and nuggets of info lyons can fit is astounding. the sheer amount of info is so good it makes me want to keep reading to get to the truth. every tiny part we uncover leads to a whole hidden depth we didn’t know about.

janel/khirin/teraeth: one of the best parts of the book. wow! all i want to see is them being happy. but also their fighting scenes are so cool bc their power is so forceful and fun to read. fire, illusions, knives (sorry khirin)

but why was i convinced galen was like 25 (which he is) and brother quoran was like 60? is he 60? they keep saying he’s younger than he looks which is ok with me. maybe he’s 30. but like during the second book when he was an old monk type and reading those stories i always imagine a super old man who was on his deathbed or something? but NOPE, he’s younger apparently and ready to be with galen. unexpected but sure

i love sheloran so much. fav character. she deserves the world. we love her friendship with galen. also love how she accepts who her mother is after a whole and is like okay yeah who do you think taught me how to murder people?

kalindra! didn’t know she’d made a comeback. now she’s just a grumpy single mom with an every grumpier kid. i would not mind if she got back together with ghost jarith, they’re cute. esp since she’s the only thing keeping him from going crazy

talea/xivan also cute murder couple. the way xivan is just so mean and dead inside and is like i don’t care about anything even if it hurts others. and then talea is the sweetest and won’t allow either of them to hurt each other. but then they got together again and now they’re happy

thurvishar/senera is intellectual power couple. the power they hold and the fact that thurvishar understood her backstory and waited until she was comfortable enough to leave relos var? love it

talon was the funniest person in this whole series. i know she’s a murder evil person but she’s got a sense of humor and she truly cares about khirin bc of lyrilyn inside her. i wonder if she’ll really change into lyrilyn to be khirin’s like mom figure or stay murder talon. i wouldn’t mind either way.

therin/khaeriel + terindel/valathea are still best parents and i missed their appearances in this book
along with tysento
and maybe xaltaroth

but the amount of NAMES this series has? especially with the reincarnated names and all the same last names. like the miligreest family, plus sheloran’s whole heritage with the god kings, and khirin’s whole deal still lowkey confused me

but i am so excited for the next book! and sad bc then this adventure will be over. i don’t think any author has come close to the scope that this book series takes on.

the worldbuilding which you thought was simple only for everything to be yanked out form under you and switched to the character being other characters to the several “you THOUGHT” scenes plus the dragons plus the tsali stones and the soul stones? i’m just waiting for everything to click and then i’ll be happy. and then i’ll reread the whole series again and make a detailed outline bc there’s just so much stuff to unpack.

So much happened in this book and the last 100 pages was action packed. Like final movie in a epic trilogy type action. I am always so surprised to find myself liking the characters who a couple of books earlier I would have been just fine if they had died horribly. I still kind of feel like that about Seneca but then you get an interlude showing why she was so loyal to Relos Var and it wasn’t really a natural loyalty and he messed with her one. Long story short, I’m start the final book immediately and I’m hoping for a wonderful end to this series.

Not as good as the previous volumes. The frame story for this one is intrusive and distracting, taking away from the action and development of characters, especially Talea and Xivan.

With any book in this series beyond the first, this book is not for everyone, but if you've gotten this far, the niche is you. Dense, lore filled, and forcing you to form a mental map of who is where and when, this one will keep your brain cells busy.
The framework of storytelling is different for each book in this series, this one included. The premise of the frame is a little weaker logically in my opinion than in the other books, but the stories within as well as the destination they approach upon shows the detail, planning, and world building that this series shines for.
