I read this book because I heard Lynne Twist speak and felt very moved by her talk. The book is nearly as effective (if a bit too drawn out). What if we weren't all constantly striving for "more"- what if we could stop and say, what I have is enough? She also points to the power of philanthropy to bring real satisfaction to donors, in a way that other investments don't. Lots of good ideas here and I'll be mulling these for some time.

The Soul of Money provides a different way of looking at money and a different way of looking at wealthy people. Frankly, the second thing is what I needed right now.
There is a big call to action in this book. Lynne Twist wants society to move away from accumulation of things and hording of money. It's a sentiment I agree with, and I feel like it was something that we were moving toward when the book was published in 2003 but that it is something we've gone away from now.

It's a collection of interesting stories from the author's life around attitudes and perspectives around money, and how our culture has been focused on scarcity and not sufficiency. I'd recommend it to anyone who has been thinking about the significance of money in their life, or struggling with these issues.
It's a little simplistic at times, but I do think the book is worth a read for progressive folks interested in economic issues. And there are some nice messages about collaboration, and about agency. It's a good read.

But still, it's a good book

Essentially a three-hour guided meditation on gratitude and on moving from a scarcity mindset to an abundance or sufficiency mindset. “Money becomes a conduit to nourish the miracle of life.” Pretty woo woo, but it’s the right mindset, I think.
