I had zero expectations going into this. I had never read any of those popular fantasy romance books with faeries etc.

Well, this wasn't nearly as bad as some people make it sound.

I enjoyed most of it. Sure, the writing isn't anything exceptional, the world-building and magic system are not the most complex, the characters aren't fully developed but I had a really good time!

Still not sure if I will pick up the sequel but right now, I'd say that I would.

LISTEN TO THIS BOOK, THE AUDIO IS BETTER THAN READING IT!

If you follow me, you know I'm a strict reviewer, and it takes a LOT for a narrator to impress me- so now let me tell you that this book was PERFECTLY CAST!
You can clearly hear the difference in the characters voices, even if you had to hold an infuriating conversation with a husband- missing some of the book, but then when zoning back in you know exactly which character is talking and to whom.
Giving a voice to the story was just so effortless and natural to these narrators that you are immediately drawn in and thrust into the world right alongside the characters, feeling everything they feel, believing in every drop of hope offered and being t0rtur3d with each heartbreak and tense forboding moment.

Both narrators did an excellent job in their own right. The inflections in their voices and the pacing were particularly note worthy. I really believed each character was acting out their story because you can hear the breathlessness, the intensity, the raw emotion, the elation and amusement, The anguish and the pain/hurt in each moment of the book! The narration was that good in this book that listening to it was similar to listening to a graphic audio book but without the sound effects.

On that note I need to mention the spicy scenes- you just heard me tell you how real both narrators make this book fell to the listener- well, I have no clue how they recorded the spicy scenes or what they were doing whilst recording... because again- Omg, even these scenes sounded real! It sounded like each moan and breathy hitch was being pulled out by the other and when they told you where their hands were going or what their tongues were doing, you can clearly picture it all which is a very difficult thing to accomplish- I listen to plenty of audio books and not many narrators can read these scenes like they are living them.

I am now a dedicated fan of both Stella and Anthony, I am genuinely a fussy audio listener and a strict reviewer, so everyone keeps telling me- so for me to give them ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ EACH is truly high praise!

🌍𝕎𝕠𝕣𝕝𝕕 𝕓𝕦𝕚𝕝𝕕𝕚𝕟𝕘, 𝕨𝕣𝕚𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕚𝕟𝕘:
The first third of the book I was enjoying, but yet, I hadn't found what all the fuss was about. I was enjoying the plot, and the pacing was good. The world building had the story unfolding before you... but it wasn't like I was feeling that 5 star vibe. Then I was introduced to kingfisher and his life. The world building got more expansive, each tiny detail offering such a clear picture in your mind.

I read along with the audio almost all the way through and found the writing style to be easy to follow and although it offered you a heII of a lot of information, detail and depth, you didn't get weighed down with it all of forced through any long info dumps. It takes a special kind of author to provide the reader with a movie quality world vision.

🧝‍♂️ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕤:
Brilliant, simply brilliant! Side characters are memorable and diverse, the bad guys are easy to hate, and good guys are super easy to route for. I got behind each character that was introduced and loved them or hated them accordingly. I loved the depth of each character and the development that they went through, no one fell flat and I wanted to know more- hanging on to each word , learning more about their past struggles and hardships and what made them the way the are today.

⏳ 𝕎𝕠𝕦𝕝𝕕 𝕚 𝕣𝕖-𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕕 𝕠𝕣 𝕣𝕖𝕔𝕠𝕞𝕞𝕖𝕟𝕕?
Yup, and yes- I would re LISTEN to this book over and over again for the depth of the story, the passion (both love and hate), and the spice. I wouldn't re-read it because the audio was so good that it just brought the story to life in my mind. And I wouldn't hesitate to listen to these narrators tell this story again, and again and I guarantee, even though I will know what's coming, I will still feel the same emotions each and every time I heard I because the narrators ARE. THAT. GOOD.

Get the audio book to this! Read along if you can, but I highly, unequivocally recommend the audio book over the book because the narratos are both so perfectly cast that this is only a few shades of being a graphic audio! They bring every scene to life, and I mean EVERY SCENE! You're welcome.

I managed to finish it but it was rubbish. I won't keep a physical copy and won't recommend it, but it's a shame as the plot could have made a good book in another authors hands

It was OK. I wish i didn't start this one as It didn't do it for me as I struggled to read it. It had an interesting premise that fell flat but I had to see what happened in the end.

I don't regret reading it, and I will read the next one, but this one did have a few flaws. [These could be repetative writing, gaps or plot holes, better character growth or world building, areas needing more detail]
Generally, the book lacked depth and became confusing. The plot resonated with me even though it annoyed me on the whole.

I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to the right people, but I wanted more! Sadly, it's easily forgettable with a few issues I just couldn't overlook/get past.

Good book! I loved it, but... I needed more! I really did enjoy it, but it had a few parts that needed more detail or added history/background or lore. But that's because the story or characters were memorable, and the plot was strong with brilliant twists. I would re-read if I needed to catch up for the next book and would recommend.

This is my God level tier. The book must be perfectly memorable. Even after reading 50+ more books, I will remember character names and emotions along with the plot. If there is a special edition, then I need to own it! If there is a conversation on books- I'm talking about this!
