I wanted more emotional connection from this story. It was a good story, but there were so many times I just wanted more. The dramatic scenes seemed glossed over.

This books started off really strong. I haven't seen read any novels about China in WWII and that is what pulled me into the book. The first part of the book, Meilin and Renshu trying to outrun the war was engrossing and captivating. Once they made it back to Taiwan and into America, I started to lose interest in the book and I actually put the book down for a few weeks before I picked it back up. I would give this book 2.5 stars but I rounded up. The ending of the books didn't really resonate with me and I feel like the book just petered out towards the end.

Peach Blossom Spring is a beautifully written historical fiction that follows a woman and her son’s journeys throughout the years, starting in the midst of World War II in China. I loved this book, though it is not a quick read. Lovers of Pachinko or Night Tiger would love this book. I also love how folktale stories with deep meaning are woven throughout the book. This was a great read!
