I liked this book but it wasn’t a favourite for me. Good amount of spice, good world building, good plot but wasn’t obsessed with it and probably won’t read the second book.
This definitely gives exactly what it says it’s going to give. Steamy, romantasy with Devils and necromancers and ghosts and a deadly game of trails modelled after the levels of Hell. I had trouble getting into the story but once the ~romantasy~ of it all picked up, I couldn’t put it down. There were a few storylines I wish could have been explored further—particularly Ophelia’s parents and Blackwell’s past—I think the trails should have been longer sequences, and I wish it could have kept up the eeriness that was so good in the beginning. But, god damn, this was hawt and also fun.

I liked the premise of this book but I feel like the introduction was really rushed. The characters didn’t feel like they were introduced adequately and because of that, the choices they were making seemed rash. I think a lot of the issues I had with it regarding their decisions could have been fixed with more back story or a longer introduction. Overall, it was entertaining enough for me to finish it, but I feel like there were some major holes to the story.
