audiobook review

This is my second Sally Hepworth book after her newest, Darling Girls, and I am officially a fan!

I had no expectations going in to The Mother-In-Law besides figuring it would be about a toxic relationship. It was so much more than that, and it exceeded my expectations in a variety of ways. I was emotionally invested in the story, and there were multiple times I thought I had it figured out just for Hepworth to steer me in another direction.

This may be a good fit if you enjoy:
- complex characters and family relationships
- getting emotionally invested in your mysteries
- fiction about tough but important topics

The narrator is fantastic, and I'm happy to see she reads multiple of the author's backlist. At the end there was an interview between the narrator, Barrie Kreinik, and Sally Hepworth, and I was shocked Barrie isn't Australian!

Overall, I loved this book! The relationships got me emotional. (Tom!) The characters who rubbed me the wrong way sometimes were written so well that I felt compassion for them, and I wished their circumstances were different. I cannot wait to crush the rest of Sally Hepworth's backlist!

Rating: I loved it! (4.5)

Great book! Lots of twists and turns….really kept me guessing!

Diana, Lucy's MIL is found dead in her house. Time jumping events and Diana's past, her relationship with Lucy, and struggles faced by all characters. D's daughter Nellie killed her for not paying for fertility stuff and then herself. Lucy and family get happy ending despite grief and money problems.

When they say “for better or for worse…” they must be talking about scary MIL’s being a part of this equation. But here’s the deal… Willa is going to one day potentially get married, and then I will be a mother in law.

I loved peering into the lives of this family - so seemingly normal and messed up like everyone else.

Towards the end I had an inkling of who who did it, but I still enjoyed listening to the story unravel with the different view points.

An easy story to listen to on audiobook during the drive commute to/from work

I loved the writing style, and story had me hooked, of course it wasn't something new or special, but I really enjoyed, and I think characters were pretty interesting!
