This was good and I did not see the ending coming at all.

I am happy that I knew little about this book before I started reading it, so I had no expectations. We know almost immediately that the mother-in-law has died and the police seem to suspect foul play. I love the way the story is told from back then and now and from Diana's point of view and from Lucy's point of view.
I noticed that so much of the conflict between Lucy and her mother-in-law seemed to come from an inability to communicate. Each was trying to "read" the other and failing miserably.
I enjoyed the back and forth between the characters telling the story. One didn't really know there was so much mystery and intrigue until one gets further along into the book. I thought the story was well told and in an interesting way.
