I needed to pick up a thriller to balance out with the rom-coms that I’ve been reading, and I’ve been meaning to pick this one up for a while… so I did.

It hooked me at the start, but all in all, it was a pretty average story. Nothing really stood out to me and the big reveal didn’t really come as a surprise… nothing too memorable or exciting happened either. Also, it didn’t really read as a ‘thriller’ to me.

It was an easy & enjoyable read (which is how I would describe most of Sally’s books). I didn’t love the way infertility is portrayed & I thought the cancer storyline was a bit of a throwaway, but that’s my only complaint. I enjoyed seeing both Lucy & Diana’s perspectives & how easy it can be to misunderstand others.

I may have been generous with five stars but I don’t think I was. This book had a little of everything and was super well paced. Not too fast or too slow yet I read it in under 24 hours. It wasn’t one of the typical psychological thrillers that are churned out so frequently nowadays (though I do love them!). The writing was there too and the characters were so developed it was hard to choose a side. Found an amazing quote that I will hold with me in this book too- always a treat. “I worked hard for everything I ever cared about. And nothing I ever cared about cost a single cent.” Great life lessons in this one reminiscent of Wolf’s Bonfires - though with a very different feel. Definitely worth the read.

Hooked me from the beginning. Not the most thrilling thriller of all time, but it was engaging throughout and I was not expecting the ending.

This was definitely not my normal pick but I enjoyed it. Sally did a great job of building the story and characters in a way that kept me guessing. I didn’t know how it would end and was invested to see the outcome.

I’m a big fan of Sally’s books, this was the fourth I have read. I love how easy the story flows; how you get hooked in at the beginning and are taken along for a ride. I love how complex the family relationships are, and in this case the focus is on the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law (which can be tricky at the best of times!). The twin narratives and different perspectives was on point 👌 I can’t say too much and give anything away!

Definitely another great domestic thriller, I wouldn’t say my mind was blown with any last minute twists and BAM, but the ride was enjoyable, and maybe I just call this a “soft thriller”??
