It's giving- and I mean this in the strangest possible way - 2007 Disney Channel Omegaverse Romcom? Very cheesy throughout. I was honestly expecting to hear "Hi! Yup, that's me! I bet you're wondering how I ended up in this situation:P" It was written very Tumblr QuirkyTM and it was really hard to take seriously at any point lol.

The contemporary setting clashed so violently with the weird monster world that I was constantly being pulled out of the story and going 'oh right, she worked in an office. and now she's engaged to a werewolf because territorial border disputes?" and then ten minutes later "Oh yeah, she lives in a hostile werewolf castle but oh no!! how is she going to survive without the internet??" It never stopped being jarring.

And then just randomly: commentary on how 'humans are the real monsters, what with their pollution and life insurance policies." Very shallow critiques on society but ya'know, gotta have em i guess?

Also, she kept referring to werewolves as 'the original furries' and gee golly what a terrible day to know how to read. Also, I wasn't prepared for the Omegaverse to jump scare me 8 hours into the book but GEE GOLLY once it showed up, it did not leave.

Yeah the whole book came across as very silly. Pretty disappointing honestly cus I've heard nothing but good things for Ali Hazelwood's work. Just not for me I guess

So this is my first Ali Hazelwood book. I already knew what it was about before I started, genuinely enjoyed the story (loved that the plot was driven not by birthday parties or holidays the couple would be all cute at, which is my fear of romance).

Seriously had a good time
