i was honestly scared to read ali hazelwood again since i didn’t like the first book i picked up from her, but i’m so glad i gave this one a chance—it didn’t disappoint! ana was absolutely adorable (i lost count of how many times i said it), and i loved lowe’s pov at the start of each chapter. the tension, temptation, and back-and-forth had me hooked, and the little moments between ana and misery melted me. serena, being the only constant in misery’s life, added such depth, and their bond was beautiful to read—even if my theory about serena being Lowe’s mate was way off. however, i felt the story could have delved deeper into misery’s anger, which would have made its impact even stronger. this story kept me guessing with its twists, but also made me feel deeply for the characters, and hazelwood really captured the yearning and ache of love-deprived girlies.

DID NOT FINISH

NGL I had no idea what was going on for the first 9 chapters

This book was incredibly mediocre. I enjoyed my time reading the book, but I don't see myself ever recommending it to anyone. I don't love the writing style. It's very simplistic and explains a lot rather that SHOWING and just letting things unfold. Misery was inconsistently written. She'd be dumb about some things and claim she's not knowledgeable about anything but math, but then knew every anatomy-based term there is simply because Ali Hazelwood always has to sneak science into her books somehow. It was fine, but not particularly memorable and I've certainly read better romances.
