this book kind of fell a bit flat for me. ali hazelwood has always been a bit hit or miss and despite the whole vampire/werewolf thing it didn’t really feel any different to her other books. it didn’t dislike it but i’m pretty indifferent to the whole thing.

Before I started reading fantasy I said I don’t like that wolf shit and honestly sentiment still stands. I didn’t hate this book, in fact I think I liked it, but I would’ve liked it better if they weren’t werewolves and vampires and that’s like the whole point. The third person of all was weird. Also very surface level book overall. Also bitch we all knew they were mates from chapter one like come on. LOVE that her name is Misery tho.

Overall, this might have not been the best first choice to introduce me to the full on romance/chick-lit genre (in terms that the romance is the main plot, and not like the other romantasy books I've read in which the romance is a bit more of a B plot.)

That's not saying the book is bad, I can definitely see why a lot of people love this book! There was just a lot of spice that I was not initially expecting, which isn't the books fault by any means! It just meant I had to skip a couple of pages, haha! But, in terms of the good aspects of the book, Misery Lark (Darkness Dementia Raven Way) was a pretty entertaining character! She is sassy and gives no-fucks about most everything which is kind of refreshing to see from a character. She very much reminded me of a typical emo kid, which sounds bad, but I enjoyed a lot. I do wish that Lowe had a little more personality other than mysteriously aloof Alpha-Man, since I feel like we should've been able to know him a little more.

This read like a Wattpad fanfiction, but honestly, I'm okay with that!

I've avoided the fantasy genre for years, so this was my first one. I never thought vampires and werewolves would be for me, but after reading a few other books by the same author, I decided to give this a try. And I have to say, I was completely thrilled. I fell in love with the characters after just a few pages. The world is interesting—full of hatred and intrigue—with an unexpected love story woven in. I especially liked that the characters weren't naive or foolish; they spoke their minds frankly, which kept the novel from being a silly, simple story. After reading this, I'm definitely going to explore the fantasy genre more.
