Overall, this might have not been the best first choice to introduce me to the full on romance/chick-lit genre (in terms that the romance is the main plot, and not like the other romantasy books I've read in which the romance is a bit more of a B plot.)
That's not saying the book is bad, I can definitely see why a lot of people love this book! There was just a lot of spice that I was not initially expecting, which isn't the books fault by any means! It just meant I had to skip a couple of pages, haha! But, in terms of the good aspects of the book, Misery Lark (Darkness Dementia Raven Way) was a pretty entertaining character! She is sassy and gives no-fucks about most everything which is kind of refreshing to see from a character. She very much reminded me of a typical emo kid, which sounds bad, but I enjoyed a lot. I do wish that Lowe had a little more personality other than mysteriously aloof Alpha-Man, since I feel like we should've been able to know him a little more.
This read like a Wattpad fanfiction, but honestly, I'm okay with that!

I've avoided the fantasy genre for years, so this was my first one. I never thought vampires and werewolves would be for me, but after reading a few other books by the same author, I decided to give this a try. And I have to say, I was completely thrilled. I fell in love with the characters after just a few pages. The world is interesting—full of hatred and intrigue—with an unexpected love story woven in. I especially liked that the characters weren't naive or foolish; they spoke their minds frankly, which kept the novel from being a silly, simple story. After reading this, I'm definitely going to explore the fantasy genre more.

I really enjoyed this book. I rounded up the star rating but felt this was a 3.5 book for me. I did feel like it was a tad predictable in the aspect that I could tell who were the villain's in the story. I enjoyed the plot and character growth. I think each character was well thought out. I hope to see more of these characters and world!

Theoretical physics? Sure. Chess? Why not. Vampires & werewolves? Count me in. If Ali Hazelwood writes it, I’m reading it.

The highlight of this book for me is definitely Misery, who was funny and resilient, making it impossible not to love her.
I like it that she was comfortable in her own skin, and didn’t worry about other’s opinions or calling her names. She was genuinely funny and wasn’t pretentious and trying to be funny. I really like her.
The love interest is fine. It isn’t anything special, but it’s cute to go along the plot line.
The villain, Misery’s father, was classic living-in-his-own-world-trying-to-do-good-by-harming-others. Not much about him is interesting.
Why Lowe pushed Misery away when she asked him if she was his mate was confusing to me. The explanation didn’t do much either. That irks me.
