Read the novelization of Episode VIII right in time to walk into the theater and watch Episode IX for the first time. I love getting more into the heads of the characters, and this one added a couple of nice little character-interaction/relationship scenes that hadn't made the final cut of the movie, so that was really cool. May The Force Be With Us All!
This was much better than the standard adaptation that TFA was. It was interesting to experience the movie from inside the charater's minds.

This novelization was amazing. It added so much to the movie in the best ways possible. New insights into characters, deeper looks into important scenes, added explanations. I loved the way this was written. Bravo.

I was disappointed in the movie and while the book does give some background information I am just not feeling it. It's nothing against Jason Fry as he was going off the story told in the film but ... Meh. I can totally see why the R3ylo shippers like it but that ship really doesn't work for me.
I'm sad I didn't like it being the big Star Wars fangirl that I am but can't like everything, I guess.
(ETA: For some reason this says I read it twice - I only read it once and I can't seem to edit the dates. Oh well. I didn't like it enough to read it twice. lol)

Okay: So I was mostly just a bit morbidly curious about this + I wanted to watch /The Last Jedi/ again.
Unfortunately, the only reason I kept reading is because I wanted to be watching /The Last Jedi/ again and I kept thinking we might go deeper into the characters, and, uh, no. There's a few new scenes and technically we're in characters heads (and are CONSTANTLY head-hopping, SDLKFJSDKLF) but aside from maybe four interesting insights and a lot of awkwardly written ones...
Mediocre at best.

This novelization didn't quite live up to the emotional pull of the first book. While I loved the nuances found in The Force Awakens, I found this book to be particularly lacking. I am pretty bummed about this as of the three movies it is by far my favorite but I still enjoyed it.
