The Last Jedi

The Last Jedi is my favorite Star Wars episode [Rogue One is still my favorite movie though].

I went into this book thinking I would get the Stormpilot content I need. How disappointing.

Poe is described as the basic trigger-happy pilot. He lives to fight. He doesn't take time to think and does stupid things. That's not my Poe. That's not the Poe from the movies. Everything's wrong about this.
Rose's character is waisted. Basically, everytime the story is told from her point of view, it goes " Oh stars, Finn is so hot " " I hate Rey blablabla ". That is so sad to reduce her to this. She deserves better.

They said that we would get new scenes, deleted scenes etc. What is this book I read ? There are like 3 new scenes but it is nothing special. It's just the movie put into a book. I know that's what a novelization is all about. But after reading Rogue One's book adaptation, The Last Jedi felt like a waist of time. I learned nothing new. At all.

I probably was expecting too much from this book ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So I know the movie was polarizing for the fandom. Some people loved it, and some hated it. I was one of the people who actually highly enjoyed the movie and that will likely come across in this review.

I would highly recommend this for superfans of Star Wars as well as readers but if you are neither you may not enjoy this book.

There are several scenes in the book that didn’t end up in the movie, all of which I enjoyed.

I personally feel it adds to the overall storyline of the franchise, we get more in the heads of several characters that we didn’t get much of in the movie. This is very true with the interactions between Black One and BB-8 which made me laugh.

I gave this 4.5 out of 5 stars and I really enjoyed it

The reason I chose to read this book was because I do not like the Last Jedi movie and I'd heard that this book was better than the movie and added some details that helped to make certain plot points make sense. And while I would say that is true and there are some added details that really helped certain characters and plots make sense, like Luke's plotline or Hux's character, I wouldn't say it was enough to make up for messiness that is the Last Jedi's plotline. No fault to the writer, I think he didn a great job with what he had, it's my fault for naively thinking that the book would take away from the parts of the movie I disliked which are the main bones of the story. That said, I did really enjoy getting Rey and Finn's inner dialougue and thoughts. It fleshes them out as characters and made me like them even more than I did before. I also reallly enjoyed the extra details of Kylo Ren's and Rey's relationship, as few as they were. Overall, I would say this book was better than the movie, but not enough to make it worth reading.

I’m here for Reylo all the way. Their scenes are the best! And I love all the small additional info we never got from the movie.

Fry's novel adds delicious flavor to a movie I already adore. And the narration by Marc Thompson is top quality. I would add this in the must listen category for fans.

Better than the movie

5 stars because of #Reylo.

Gorgeous accompaniment to the film.

I had a lot of issues with how Rose was written in this book, but there’s scenes at that end with other characters that weren’t in the movie that saved it for me.

I've been wanting to read this for ages (or well listen to it because that's how I "read" Star Wars books) but I put it off in fear that the extended edition wouldn't add that much and I would be let down.

I'm one of the few that really enjoyed The Last Jedi and although it's certainly not my favourite Star Wars movie and it had a lot of flaws, I did like the overall concept and things that happened during it.

This book definitely lived up to my expectations and I really enjoyed the extra added content that happened! I loved how you got to "feel" the characters reactions to new creatures and settings in this, and I also in general enjoyed the character interactions.

I'm still not a fan of Rose, and I think that theories that she was working for the First Order were heightened throughout this because she seemed more sinister to me? Maybe that's just me not liking her lmao.

4/5
